Song from XCOM Enemy Unknown Trailer Commercial 2012

All nerds of a certain age will surely be counting the seconds until the new XCOM game is released. From all the gameplay footages I have seen it actually looks really good, I just hope that the gameplay is as fun as the original. I hope they haven't dumbed it down and kept the tactical aspects as deep as before. I can't afford to be disappointed like I was for the new Jagged Alliance again, I was so looking forward to that game as well. The song they used for the commercial also made it so epic, and just got me even more psyched up for the release...oh please be good. The music is

Song from Carlton Draught Commercial with four guys running away from police holding beer 2012

This is such a funny commercial spoofing all those Hollywood car chases, who ever came up with the idea deserves a beer :). All the usual mandatory shots are there, the guys ramming the police into the sidewalk, escaping down a narrow alleyway, the must-have car jumping shots going down a steep road, and the classic drive down the storm drain with the cars going up onto the side. They even threw in the road block ramming and the road bridge jumping scene. Despite the hilarity of the ad maybe there is a profound hidden message here, which is "DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE", who knows if that was intentional or not. Arguably though for me, the thing that made the commercial so funny is the song, which is

Song from 2013 Kia Soul Commercial with hamsters dancing at the opera ballet from old time period 2012

Not sure what medication the creative people at the ad agency was taking when coming up with this commercial, but I am sure they were taking lots of it :). Or maybe they just went on a Back To The Future marathon, that's what too much Michael J Fox will do to you (just kidding I love him), actually I must say one of the hamster looks remarkably like him. Anyways, they really went all out for the customs here, the academy should really look into giving these guys an Oscar for custom designs, or perhaps best soundtrack? I love how the music transitioned from the classical opera to the dance tune, the song used is

Song from Sony Xperia Tablet Commercial with fruit ninja in the studio set 2012

Definitely one of the most creative, well choreographed and well put together commercials I have seen in a while. What is even more impressive is that it all seems to be filmed in one single long shot, which must have been pretty difficult considering there was quite a lot of stuff going on. I supposed Sony needed a good ad to help sell more of it's product considering the current state the company is in. Now we will just have to see if the Xperia Tablet will be as impressive as it's ad. The song in the commercial is also pretty cool, it is

Locations in 100% Middle-earth 100% Pure New Zealand Commercial 2012

No doubt New Zealand is one of the world's most beautiful places with spectacular sceneries, especially if you are a nature lover. This is evident in their latest tourism commercial. So for those of you who are already planning to go to New Zealand or are thinking about going after seeing the ad, and are wondering what the locations are in the commercial because you want to go visit them, I thought I will try to put a list of the places together.

1. Fiordland

2. Mount Alfred, Glenorchy

3. Waitomo Caves

4. Kerosene Creek, Rotorua

5. Onemana Beach, Coromandel

6. Rippon Winery, Wanaka

7. Donut Island, Coromandel

8. Kaikoura

9. Jack's Point, Queenstown

10. Southland

11. Lake Quill, Southland

If anyone knows anymore please let me know so I can add them to the list.

PS. The locations listed are for the extended version of the ad.

Song from Radox Commercial with stop-motion animation of a woman taking a shower in the fields 2012

I am not sure what those little white things they used in the stop-motion animation to draw the woman and the shower, maybe little stones or pebbles, well whatever it was it looked pretty nice. It must have taken ages to filmed though, especially the multicolor part with the woman dancing as she is taking the shower and the fireworks go off, imagined if it had rained during filming :(. It's nice to see Radox putting in some effort and trying something different though, rather than the typical shower gel/shampoo commercials that just get some good looking actresses to take a shower and pretending to have a great time. The song in the commercial is also nice, which is

Song from Mazda 6 Commercial with two people playing Cello and the car driving on the salt flats 2012

The guy and the girl playing the cellos must be pretty fit, playing the whole way through from night to day like that :). I am not sure if the stars were digitally added or not but they are absolutely spectacular, if it's real I would really want to give that place a visit someday...maybe in my new Mazda 6 :p. The design changes they have made are pretty good in my opinion. It has got a more sporty look, from certain angles it almost looks like a coupe, which is not a bad thing. The new headlights are also pretty slick. To go with the new image maybe that's why they used a hipper song, which is

All Songs from Red Stag Commercial with the guy walking around with headphones on 2012

Em...not sure why he is walking around wearing headphones, I'm sure there is music playing in the club already, maybe it's a bit too loud for him so he is using the headphones as ear plugs. Where ever this party is I want in though, I have been to parties with different zones before, but to have three wicked zones like this, a dungeon type area, a black light disco area and a live band area must be so cool. Guess I should hurry up and go to the Red Stag facebook page and click on whatever they want me to click on hoping I get lucky. If the music playing is as great as the ones in the commercial it will be hard to select just 3 favorite track though, the ones in the ads are

Song from American Restoration Commercial on History Channel 2012 with them driving a flaming golf-kart and sword fighting

I always wondered if working in the workshop restoring antiques like these guys are really as fun as it is made out to be on the show. I am sure there are plenty of blood, sweat and tears we don't get to see. We just get presented the footage with all the good bits on it, with all the boring, tedious part cut out. Still it must be pretty satisfying at the end for them to see what they have accomplished, transforming things from rusted wrecks to pristine collectables. It's fitting I guess that the song use for the series' commercial is by someone whose work is a real classic, and has now passed  away

Song from Telus Commercial that goes Always Be There For You 2012 with the ladybird, hanging hippo and green lizard

Another cute commercial from Telus, I really like this series of ads from them. They say never work with children or animals, but when the results are this adorable I think we can make an exception. It must have been one massive crane they used though to be able to hang the hippo up like that, or maybe they used a baby hippo...still. Also I sure hope these animals have agents, with performances like these many more directors are sure to be calling, if not then I'm available :).

Oh and they have chosen yet another great song for the commercial, which is

Song from Volvo V40 Commercial with the guy waiting in line in a queue at the shop 2012

I have no idea what this commercial is trying to say. Drive a Volvo V40 and you will always be stuck in line at a queue in the shops? Well that's not a very enticing proposition now is it. How is an adaptive digital display and a pedestrian airbag going to help me skip the checkout line? Oh maybe now with the airbags I can "nudge" them harmlessly out of the way with my car :). Anyways at least the song in the commercial makes sense, which is

Song from Beetle Commercial first showing different old beetles and then at the end showing the new 21st century car 2012

You know, although they have done a good job updating the old Volkswagen Beetle, I still much prefer the old one. It just has so much character not present in the new ones. Especially with the newest update, the car just looks like some sort of AUDI Q and Porsche Cayenne hybrid. Maybe the designers just took the designs from both and combined them, which is possible given that Volkswagen owns both Audi and Porsche. I can't deny though that practically the new models will be far superior. The driving experience will be much easier and smoother, and you wouldn't have to worry about all the little maintenance and repairs for a while.

Oh and in case you were wondering the song in the commercial is

Song from Acura Commercial with LED lights on the car playing video on the windows 2012

The computer controlled LED lights video projections are cool and all, but the real question is...will this be an available option? Because if it is I sure want one :). The car insurance companies better get ready for an increase in claims though, since I am not sure how you are meant to see anything trying to drive with the LED lights on. I guess you can always just park it at some empty parking lot and use it as a mobile club to quickly setup a party with your raceboy friends. I certainly wouldn't mind having the cool song in the commercial blasting away, which is

Song from Hotels.com Commercial 2012 with the cartoon animation

The animation in the hotels.com commercial is absolutely cute and charming. In fact, it is better than many animated movies or series I have seen, I wonder what production company created it. Also I wonder how much it cost, it certainly does not look cheap, I guess hotels.com business is going pretty well. Maybe I should check them out for my next holidays.

They also chose a very charming song to go with the commercial, which is

Song from Subway Commercial with a biker wearing a party hat and an Asian woman in a car 2012

I am not sure who approved this ad. The first time I watched it I thought it was quite funny, and the actor playing the biker did really well to keep a straight face through it all. After a while thinking about it though, I was like "what has that got anything to do with Subway?", and the answer is absolutely nothing. At least it was probably one of the cheapest ad ever to film. They didn't even need to use actors, just extras, since there wasn't a single word that needed to be said. Still, all this can't take away the awesomeness of the song used in the commercial though, it's an absolute classic, it is

Song from Gwyneth Paltrow Hugo Boss Fragrance Commercial 2012

Wow, I am sure many women will give anything to look this good at 39 years old, and that figure!!! Ok, there was probably a lot of make up and camera filters involved but still. As for Hugo Boss, I can only remember them doing fragrances for men, not sure if this is their first ever perfume for women but I can still see they have kept the mood and tone the same, slightly dark and sexy. As for the song in the commercial at first I thought it was by Coldplay, which would make sense given that she is married to their lead singer, but turns out it is

Song from MLB Commercial with different Mascots dancing and performing 2012 Let's Get Wild

I think these Mascots deserve a raise, they put in way more effort than a lot of baseball players making 1000 times their salary, and arguably they entertain the fans even more. I can't imagine what it would be like on a hot day inside those suits though, it's hard enough just walking around wearing T-shirts and shorts let alone running around doing dance moves in a heavy costume. My favorites are those that looked like real people with the crazy faces, they are pretty hilarious. The song in the commercial it seems is also perfect for these mascots to dance around to, which is

Song from Once Upon A Time Season 2 Commercial Promo 2012

I actually like this series for taking a risk trying something different compared to all the other series currently out there that just stick to the usual bankable formulas, I mean how many crime investigation, or vampire werewolf shows do we really need? The cast they got is also pretty impressive, with many of them no strangers to big budgeted Hollywood movies. With it being so different and the plot so unfamiliar to most people I am not sure how well it is doing ratings wise though. I guess getting a second season means that it can't be doing too bad. Another thing I really like is the music in the season 2 commercial, which gave an epic feel perfect for a fairytale :), the song is

Song from Estee Lauder Pleasures Fragrance Commercial with the girl in the park and her boyfriend filming video 2012

A nice and simple commercial, which is pretty unusual for a perfume commercial. Almost all of them seems to be big budgeted productions and are filmed pretty much like a high end fashion shoot, with very abstract concepts and visuals. This one just has a girl walking around a park with a boyfriend taking a video of her. The visuals is clean and beautiful and I don't have to keep wracking my brain trying to figure out what is going on. Considering all this, the music they chose was perfect, which is a nice feel good song

The Girls in the Carl's Jr. Memphis BBQ Burger Commercial with two girls grilling meat (blonde and brunette) 2012

I am not sure if the same company makes both the Carl's Jr. and AXE commercials, but there is certainly one thing you can count on both of them having, very sexy women. Certainly the new ad for the Memphis BBQ burgers is no exception. Featuring two very beautiful women in conservative (material wise that is) outfits working the grill cooking some meat for their burgers. Initially they might be fighting for space on the grill (although I don't understand why since the grill is easily big enough for both of them), but then in the end they realize it is best to work together. I am sure many of you out there will be wondering who these two girls are, since you probably weren't watching the burgers...I know I wasn't.

The blonde girl is Sara Jean Underwood and the brunette is Emily Ratajkowski.

Song from Virgin Mobile Commercial with people throwing away their phones and destroying their cells 2012

Hahaha, this is a pretty funny commercial, I actually feel sorry for the mobile phones in the commercial though. Even though what the people in the ad are doing is pretty extreme, I am pretty sure most of us can actually relate to that feeling. You know, the feeling after having the same phone for a few years, then you start to look around at all the shiny new models coming out, and for some reason your phone start to not work, like the buttons might become unresponsive or the screen might become blurry :). It might be easier, and would make more sense to just sell the old one though, although doing that we would have gotten a really boring commercial. Also in case you were wondering, the song in the commercial is

Song from Copper Commercial on BBC America 2012

For some reason this series kind of reminds me of Boardwalk Empire. Obviously the central character seems more of a good guy overall in Copper, but he has certainly got a dark side, perhaps even an anti-hero type feel. The series has only begun though so we will probably learn more as it goes on. It does seem a bit strange tough for the BBC to be producing a show that seems to be so deeply routed in America, both in terms of location and style. Equally strange is the decision to use a song from an English artist for the commercial, I mean I know the BBC is English but this is such an American show. Anyways the song is

Song from GoPro Commercial with Dolphins 2012

First swimming with sharks and now dolphins. The first time I saw this video I thought it was absolutely amazing, it was just perfect with the blue sea and great music. After rewatching it a few times however, I am sad to say, I think there is a higher chance of the video being fake than being real. There is just something off and not right about how the dolphins move and how they look. Especially if you watch the longer original video, the transitions and the way it was filmed also seems a bit strange. I don't think I am the only one who feels this way, there are plenty of other people online who thinks this video is a fake, made specially by GoPro to look real and designed to go viral. Regardless of the authenticity of the video however, one thing is for certain, the awesome song being used in the video, which is

Song from Lancome Fragrance Commercial La Vie Est Belle with Julia Roberts and everyone on strings like a puppet 2012

I wonder if this commercial was done by the same people that did the Nike commercial with the puppet Iniesta, there seems to be a recurring theme here. I am not sure how using a Lancome perfume will help you break free though? Maybe it is trying to say people should breakaway from using the usual brand of fragrance and try something new.

Considering she is 44 years Old Julia Roberts is looking pretty amazing. That and the fact that she is the only one wearing white when everyone else is wearing black you would think would be enough for her to break free from conventions and stand out. Apparently though the only way is to use Lancome's new fragrance. Another thing that surprised me was the choice of music, usually in these types of fashion commercial they would use more "artsy" songs, maybe this is also another way for them to be different. Anyways the song is

Song from Hyundai Commercial 2012 with a pencil drawing a line and the robot that builds the car

So Hyundai even built the robots that built their cars, but who built the robots? Maybe the cars built the robots, but what came first, the cars or robots??? Arhhh...my head hurts. Of course I am just joking, the commercial is actually really clever. The whole time it made us think that the designers were putting so much effort into designing their cars. Only at the end does it reveal that all this was just for designing the robots that will be building their cars. Hmmm...maybe if only they had put this much thought into their vehicle designs, although to be fair it has gotten a lot better in recent years. The music used also helped made us feel that they were doing something very special and important, the song used was

Song from Nike CTR Commercial with the raindrops and breaking glass on the football boot 2012

To be honest I much prefer the other commercial with the puppet.

It was much more creative, this one with just the boot virtually flying around showing different angles, while it does look cool and is visually well done, it felt pretty pretty generic. Also there doesn't seem to be any reason for all the shattering glass and crystal droplets falling on the football boot other than to look good. If looking stylish is the goal they were going for though, then I think they have succeeded, and the song certainly helped a lot in this regard, which is

Song from Nike CTR360 Maestri III Commercial with Puppet Iniesta playing football on strings 2012

I really like this commercial, the idea and concept is great for a football boot with "complete ball control" as it's selling point. By doing it this way they also needed very little time with Andres Iniesta himself for filming. That should make things a lot easier because we all know how hard it is to get time with these big football stars, and even when you do you wouldn't have much of it. As for the classical song used in the commercial it is

Song from Grey's Anatomy Season 9 Commercial Promo 2012

You would think the usual daily drama and excitement of the ER is enough, but these doctors seems to keep on finding new (mis)adventures to get themselves into. After 9 seasons though, I am not surprise, since the producers have probably gone through pretty much every single disease humanly known and then some. Maybe the show should have ended a while ago, at this point I think even many fans agree that the show is way past it's peak, and many of them are quite sad with the current state of the show. Perhaps this will be the last season of Grey's Anatomy. At least they chose a nice song for the promo though, which is

Song from Sky Sports HD Commercial 2012 for the new football season showing fans in the stadium stands cheering

The 90 minutes of nail biting, eyes squinting, face in palms tension is back...YES...wait a second, is that a good thing? Of course it is :). Depending on which team you support the degrees of symptoms may vary. All of us will still be cynical while talking down our team's hope of achieving anything, all the while secretly hopeful that miracles might just happen this season. It's nice to have a commercial that puts the focus on probably the most important people in the game...that fans, because they rarely get the credits they deserve. Although I am not sure if the ones in the commercials were real supporters or extras told to celebrate, one thing I am sure of however is the song used, which is

Song from GEICO Commercial that Eddie Money sings in the travel agency 2012 to four people

As if the hassle of booking a holiday with all the different flights, hotels and guides weren't enough, you might now also have to endure some horrible singing from your travel agent. At least that's what might happen if Geico has anything to do with it. Not only that, but they will be so busy singing they probably wouldn't even listen to what you want and get pretty much everything wrong, which to be honest is not so different to what usually happens already. All joking aside though, I must commend Eddie Money for a great performance. It couldn't have been easy for a professional singer to pretend to sing badly like that, and the looks he was giving was really funny as well...at least I hope he was pretending. The song he is singing is

Song from Sears commercial with the dogs driving a car to buy a new TV after they broke it fighting over a red heel 2012

I am not not sure why the dogs were fighting over the red heel stiletto in the first place, is it even their size? Even if it is there is only a pair of them, but with four legs, I wonder which paw they will put it on, or maybe the leather just taste good?

Anyways, back to the commercial, I know Sears online ordering and guaranteed curbside pickup in five minutes is impressive and all, but what is even more impressive is the fact that these dogs can drive cars and clean up after their own mess. Mine just looks at me with twisted pleasure as he waits for me to pick up his poop. I still wonder how they paid for the new TV though, maybe out of their retirement account?

The song in the commercial is also nice and jolly, great for the mood and tone they were going for, it is

Song from ESPN College Football Returns Commercial 2012

It is often debated which of the two invoke more passion between the NFL and College Football, and the answer will change depending on who you ask. But one thing that is not debatable is that the fans of the College Football league have plenty of passion for their teams. So it is great that they have chosen the perfect song for the commercial to pump you up for the upcoming season, although to be fair I am not sure how pump up you need to be to sit on your couch in from of the TV drinking beer while watching the game. Song from LYNX 1 Million Fans Commercial 2012 with the Rube Goldberg domino setup and a party at the end

I would love to see the behind the scene for this commercial, of how long it took to set everything up, and of what went wrong in the first 57 takes until the 58th one that we saw. It must be so annoying if they messed something up close to the end of the sequence. At my house I usually just pick it up and spray it on myself, yeah I know...boring! Maybe that's why I have never experienced the Lynx effect. The song in the commercial is also really cool, it is by quite an unknown band(for now), and is called

Song from Microsoft Commercial for New Logo 2012

Some people will love it and some people will hate it, personally I quite like the new Microsoft logo, it's clean and simple. Even I must admit however, that when I first saw it I thought it was a commercial for a Google product. Those saying that Microsoft is copying Google's design(just like how they are now getting into mobile) certainly have some valid points, the style of the logo is certainly very similar, especially combined with the slightly pastel color schemes. Apart from the new design though, I also really like the music in the ad.

In cast you were wondering what the song is, I am sorry to say that it is just a jingle made specially for the commercial.

Song from John Lewis Commercial for Somerset by Alice Temperley 2012 with the two sisters

It must be pretty though having a model as a sister, but in this case I think they are both equally beautiful. What is also equally beautiful is the visual in this commercial, the color and tone is perfect and it just makes you feel so relax just watching it. There is absolutely no story or plot in the ad, but it just works because it is so well shot. The music used is also amazing, and it just pulls everything together, the song is

Song from GMC Commercial with time lapse of a house being built for Summer Event 2012

The first thing that came to my mind when I first saw this commercial was "there are still houses being built?", with the current state of housing in the US I am pretty sure this house was made specially for the shoot, or maybe it was filmed in Asia somewhere. And talking about posing instead of helping out, the GMC trucks and SUVs seems to just sit there looking new and shinny, and if you are planning on getting them in another color, it seems they are only available in black :). The Frozen Ground Trailer Song 2012

Probably not the best trailer ever created, and considering the two lead actors in the movie, John Cusack and especially Nicolas Cage are well past their prime in terms of star power, they could have used a really good one to get people to want to go see the film. Well I can't blame the people editing the trailer though, they probably realize they didn't need to bother doing a really good job, they can simply insert clips of Vanessa Hudgens pole dancing in a very revealing thong, and pretty much every male will be going to see the movie anyway, which is exactly what they did. In case you weren't too distracted by her "curves", and weren't totally focus on the visuals, you will have heard a very famous song, in case you were wondering what it was, it is

Song from CHANEL Rouge Allure Commercial where you can only see a woman eyes and mouth and lots of red lips 2012

The art direction for this commercial is really amazing, I am still wondering how they filmed it. I am pretty sure they were inspired by old movie and advertisement posters. The woman face almost looks like it was drawn onto the background. I am not so sure about the red lips popping up everywhere near the end though, it can be quite scarey. The song is also very chic and goes very well with the commercial, it is

Italian Song from Dolce And Gabbana Fragrance Perfume Commercial in black and white 2012

I have absolutely no idea what is going on in this commercial, in fact, I never understood any of these fragrance commercials. They all seem to be very random and abstract, especially from the high-end fashion brands. Maybe it's a cleaver psychological trick to make us want the buy the perfumes to find out. It hasn't yet worked on me though, although to be fair I might be a lost cause, since I rarely even use soap. Oh well, at least the ad is beautifully shot with amazing scenery, I like how they chose to go black and white with everything except the products to make them really stand out. As well as the visuals the Italian song used is also quite nice, which is

Song from DSW Commercial that goes I'm in with the in crowd, with women getting in a taxi and going to a bar 2012

I wonder how the four women choreographed exiting their apartments like that, all at the same time, did they phone each other on a four way call and had a countdown? And to have a taxi conveniently waiting for them like that? It's hard enough for me to try and find one screaming and shouting in the middle of the streets. Maybe the driver just couldn't resist their stylish heels, or maybe I am just not part of the "In Crowd". And the sign that says "Where'd You Get Those Shoes?"...errrr...DSW maybe? Considering you're in a DSW COMMERCIAL!!! Anyways the song in the commercial is of course

Song from Nike Find Your Greatness Commercial with lots of London sign 2012

Yes I always knew I was great...what's that? Not until I buy a pair of Nike limited edition LeBron sneakers for $350 dollars...oh well.

I got to say though that the commercial was beautifully shot, the location scouts really found some amazing sceneries, can't imagine how much it cost to film at all these locations, especially since each place seems to use quite a lot of extras. My favourite scenes are of the people swimming under the bridge, and of the kids playing Takraw on the rooftops of Bangkok. In case you were wondering, Takraw is one of Thailand's national sport. It is a bit like volleyball, except you are not allowed to use your arms, and there are only three people for each side. Another thing which was great about the commercial was the music, which was specially composed for the ad by

Nicholas Wright and Great Jones7

Sadly however, the song is not available to the public...yet.

Voice Over Narrating Nike Find Your Greatness Commercial 2012

The voice over narrating the Nike commercial "Find Your Greatness" might be familiar to a lot of people. That is not very surprising since he is a pretty famous actor, who has been in a lot of big movies recently. Here let me give you a hint, he played "Bane" in The Dark Knight Rises...what?...you don't recognize him?...oh right, sorry I forgot he was wearing a mask for like the whole movie, and his voice was digitally altered to sound scary. How about this, he played one of the CIA superspy in the movie This Means War...and he didn't get the girl at the end. That's right the voice in the commercial belongs to Tom Hardy :)

Song from Guitar Hero World Tour Commercial with Kobe Bryant, Tony Hawk, Michael Phelps and Alex Rodriguez 2012

Wow, I got to admit this is probably one of the coolest commercial I have seen in a while. Just to be able to get these guys together for one commercial is very impressive. I can't imagine how much it cost, but the Guitar Hero franchise must be raking in loads of cash to be able to afford all these guys. What is also equally amazing is the performances these guys put in. They didn't just come in and numbly say their lines, they really went all out and seemed to enjoy making fun of themselves, especially Kobe Bryant who seems to be putting in more effort(and a better performance) than in some of his basketball matches. The song they chose to sing is also quite fun, which is

Song from The Impossible Trailer 2012

The story of this movie actually hits pretty close to home, which kind of makes me want to check out the film. At the time I was actually on holiday at the beach, and that very morning got on a boat from my hotel next to the sea to go sightseeing around a local island nearby. While we were out at sea there were some strange riptides happening around the island, and the boatman said that in ten years he has been on these waters he has never seen anything like it. We didn't think anything much of it at the time, but when we got back to the hotel later that day...WHAT THE !?@#?!. There were boats in our hotel swimming pool? and our little bungalow villa looked like it has taken a bath. Luckily the beach we were on was not too badly hit, the waves were only 4 meters high(still pretty high though), and only a few people got killed or injured.

Anyways, the song in the trailer is

Song from Samuel Adams Octoberfest Commercial 2012

A festival dedicated to beer? Where the golden liquid of the gods flow freely and people don't look at you in disgust for drinking too much, but for drinking too little? Sign me up please :). And if you happen to spill some here and there after having a bit too many, don't worry, as Jim Koch says in the commercial, "Don't worry I can make more". After seeing this ad, I can't help but compare the office I work in with my dull grey monotone cubical and the kind of "office" the people at Samuel Adams gets to work in...maybe I should go back and have a word with my career counselor for not "advising" me properly. Back in college I was told to stay away from alcohol as it will waste away your life...well look who's laughing now...not me. Oh sorry, I almost forgot, the song in the commercial is

Song from Axe Commercial with the hair and breasts 2012

I completely deny what is being suggested by this commercial. I don't just see breasts when I look at a woman...I see bottoms too :). No wonder why I am fast becoming invisible with the opposite sex though, it must be because of my thinning head of hair. Joking aside I must commend the person who came up with the idea for this ad, providing something fresh and different from the usual AXE commercial we have become used to, basically filling the screen with as many ridiculously beautiful women as possible. The song used also fit perfectly, which is

For those of us who have been too lazy to actually go and do any form of exercises whatsoever by ourselves, do not despair, the Nike Priority Sports app from O2 is here. Now we can feel like we are at least trying by download this exercise app, but most of us will probably end up spending more time using the app than actually doing any exercises. Although according to the commercial, sucking a lollipop, floating in a pool with a float ring, chewing gum, cleaning toilets and clubbing also counts as training...hmm...maybe I should give my friends a call to see if they are up for some "exercising" at the local bar tonight. The Expendables 2 Spoilers It Should Have Been Better

I really, really wanted to love this movie, and it really pains me to say that, while the movie wasn't bad, it should have been better...a lot better. I wasn't expecting some master piece of modern cinema either (who would expect that going to see this film?), just a fun nostalgic ride back to the days when one man could win a war while uttering an endless stream of cheesy lines, days when bad acting is cherished as an art form.

Sadly however, after doing such a great job of bringing together such a group of legends, the script really fails to pay homage to them, and it felt like a really big missed opportunity. The part with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis especially should have been way more epic and much cooler, I mean these guys have single-handedly killed thousands of anonymous henchman without even breaking a sweat, the only person they really did justice for is Chuck Norris.

With all these guys together there is a treasure trove of one liners and possible inside digs. Many of course were used, but many felt forced and rushed, they should have integrated them much better into the context of the situation in the film, instead of saying them just for the sake of saying them. As for the bad acting, yes they are aplenty, but they can be really entertaining when done during the action and not taking themselves too seriously. When bad acting really becomes "bad" however, is when the script tries to introduce "serious" emotional background and connections between the characters. One of the worst is maybe the introduction of an unknown Asian woman into the team, who then proceeds to have a mini romance with Stallone's character...errr...I mean why? and she ends up with the most screen time, second only to Stallone. Another is when they try to get the audience to feel something for Liam Hemsworth's character by having him talk about his past, so we might feel sad when he dies...yes the rumor that one of the team gets killed early on is true, but the only thing anyone will be feeling is relief that it was Liam Hemsworth. I got to say though that one of the best performances was definitely by Jean-Claude Van Damme as the bad guy. In fact, it is probably the best I have ever seen by him (not saying much I know but still), his style in this movie is very similar to Mickey Rourke's.

Overall though, anyone who remembers fondly the action films of the 80s and 90s, and wants a taste of what is no longer available in modern action movies, should definitely go and see this film, they really don't make them like this anymore.

Interesting Facts

I am sure this movie will go into the Guinness Book World Records for the most CGI blood used ever. Even punches to the face spills as much CGI blood as a severed limb in most other movie.

Jet Li only appears for about 10 minutes at the beginning of the movie.

Not sure how many people noticed this, but at the beginning when they were supposed to be in Napal, a lot of the low level bad guys/cannon fodder (including the interrogator) spoke Thai. I didn't realize Nepalese spoke Thai, or maybe the scenes were actually filmed in Thailand, which probably makes more sense since filming in Nepal is probably a lot more difficult.

Everyone's favorite show for watching twenty-somethings pretending to be high schoolers lip syncing to covered(copied) songs is back...errr...if you haven't seen it, it's better than it sounds(excuse the pun). Song from Levi's Commuter Commercial with the guy riding a bicycle cycling 2012

This is a really abstract commercial, something I would have expected from a more traditional "fashion" brand. One that doesn't really feature any storyline, just beautiful shots of a good looking person wearing Levi's product from all sort of angles. Maybe they are trying to do a more trendy looking version of Premium Rush, with less action and more fashion, I mean even the bicycle is way more chic and stylish. The most action you will get here is the rider slamming a car door close on an unsuspecting driver, I didn't quite get that though, and if I was the driver I would have probably started my car and run him down.

The jazzy song though went very well with the style of the commercial, the music is

Well the ingredients in the commercial seems really fresh and I am sure the Cantina Bowl tasted great, well the one in the commercial at least. I am pretty sure if I went down to my local Taco Bell and ordered this "gourmet" menu it wouldn't look anything like this, and if I sneaked into the kitchen I wouldn't find Chef Lorena Garcia expertly preparing my meal, but some kid who can't wait to get off his shift (can't blame him really, I have been there). French Song from Toyota GT86 Commercial 2012 with the animated guy driving a red car escaping an artificial city through a barrier

The idea for this commercial is actually really good. The animation is really well done as well, the mood and tone is great. Feels a bit like you are in the "Tron" universe. By doing something different I think they have really grabbed the attention of whoever is viewing this commercial, well at least they have got my attention. Usually when the standard commercials come one with a car driving around a winding road somewhere in a beautiful landscape with blue skies my mind just automatically say "advert" and switches off. I was actually paying full attention to this one wondering what it was about. The song used was also perfect I think, rather than using some generic rock or techno song during the car chase the classic French song really added to the dark and depressing atmosphere. I am sure most of you recognize the song, but many might not know what it is called, the song is

Song from Live Your Life by American Eagle Outfitters Commercial 2012

There are actually several commercials by American Eagle Outfitters for the Live Your Life series. They are all pretty similar, featuring different people talking about their life and their fashion styles...and a lot of "posing". It is hard to tell if they are actually real people though, as they seem so "made for TV", with the perfect look, perfect hair and great skin, oh well maybe that is why they were chosen to star in the commercials. As for the outfits? Well I have been to their stores a few times and while they have got quite a lot of nice stuff, their prices are not so nice :). The song in the commercial though, is

Song from Freelancers Trailer (2012 Movie)

I don't know how 50 Cent convinced Robert De Niro to star in this movie with him, or even Forest Whitaker for that matter, I mean are these the best roles they can get? They are both Oscar winners for crying out loud, granted they are stars has certainly faded quite a bit...but still. Overall the trailer doesn't look bad, it just doesn't look too good either. It was also a bit of a surprise that a 50 Cent song was not used in the trailer and I am not sure if there will be one in the soundtrack or not. Although it might turn out to be a good move if he wants people to take his acting career more seriously and if he plans to do more in the future. The song used in the trailer though is

Song from Citi Active Vacation Thank You Card Commercial with the couple water skiing, biking, rock climbing and bungee jumping 2012

Hmm, I wonder how much the couple have spent to have enough points to go and do all the things they did in the commercial. I too would love to go water skiing, biking on top of a mountain and rock climbing, but maybe not the bungee jumping part. It would probably be cheaper for me to go out and buy the vacation though rather than try to accumulate enough points by using like a million dollars on my credit card. The scenery in the commercial is amazing though, I think it was filmed in Brazil. Another thing that was also good is the song, which is

The song from The Last Stand Trailer and Arnold Schwarzenegger looking old

Arnold Schwarzenegger in his days was the ultimate action hero. He could single-handedly destroy an entire army while smoking a cigar and it would look realistic. With the body of a 7 TIMES Mr. Olympia that is not very surprising. In his prime all other action heroes were relegated to playing second fiddle. But from what I have seen of The Last Stand trailer, it really pains me to see him now, and it really pains me to say that, he has aged pretty badly. I think everybody, including his fans is thinking the same thing, but no one wants to say it. Now he seems to look really out of place in an action movie, his movement and his body is just not up to it anymore, you don't believe he can beat up a kitten let alone a load of bad guys. It is understandable though given his age, but the thing is, he has ages very badly "relative" to other actors.

Take Sylvester Stallone, who is one year older, as an example. When they were both in their prime Stallone was no where near as dominating as Arnold.  Now though, things are completely different. From what I have seen recently in his movies, and from the Bullet In The Head trailer, he certainly can still get the job done. I know a lot of it is done using camera angles and good editing, but onscreen it still looks pretty good. His movement, the fighting, the punches he throws still looks to carry a lot of weight behind them. His body while certainly not amazingly toned anymore, has still got the look of a bulky large set strong guy (another person you might think of is Mickey Rourke).

Maybe it's because Arnold never had to act "tough" his muscles does that for him, he could stroll into a room smiling and no one would mess with him, but other actors had to rely more on their overall look. Well now those muscles are gone and he is not looking so tough anymore.

Oh and in case you were wondering, the song in the trailer is

The song from the movie 10 Years Trailer

It is quite rare to find an actor whose main genre of movie is either a soppy/tear jerking love story or an all out action/action comedy. I mean you might find some actors who started off with one genre and then moved over to another as their career progressed, but Channing Tatum seems to be doing both, successfully, at the same time. Which is strange, because you would think they both require completely different personality traits and looks.

Another thing that struck me in the 10 Years movie trailer is the song at the end, which was being played on the guitar by the character in the movie who is a musician. The song was actually performed and sung by the actor himself, and it is called

The song from the Bullet To The Head Trailer

As much as I hate to admit it, I think this movie, or at least the trailer looks to be like a lot of fun. It really reminds me of the film "Showdown In Little Tokyo" staring Dolph Lundgren (Stallone's costar in The Expendables 1 and 2) and Brandon Lee. That film also has a similar plot with the same action pairing of one brute force loving partner and another more subtle martial arts fighter. Someone one told me it reminded them of the film "Die Hard 4.0" (staring Bruce Willis, another of his Expendables costar) but I don't know. Anyways, I think the trailer is really well made in terms of getting people to want to see the movie, and I love the song in it which is

The song in the Lady Gaga Fame Perfume Fragrance commercial 2012 with everyone in black latex paint

I am not sure who they are trying to market this so called "perfume" to, maybe S&M lovers? I am sure fans of Lady Gaga will love it though so maybe those are the people they are trying to appeal to, but it could be argued that those people will be buying the fragrance anyway, and maybe the commercial should be a bit more mainstream. When Internet Fails

I think we have got to a point now where many of us take the internet for granted. The all knowing all entertaining fountain of knowledge that flows out through our broadband and wireless connections is so ever present now, like tap water, it is just always there when we want it. So when I was sitting in front of my computer this morning pleasantly sipping my drink waiting to have my morning dose of the interweb, I was filled with a level of horror of which I have never felt since my last dental appointment...

"Connection Not Found"...what?!! After retrying a dozen times to no avail, I desperately phoned my internet provider, hands shaking as the withdrawn symptoms start to set in. "Sorry sir, there seems to be something wrong with your phone line. We will need to send someone in to have a look, but the soonest available slot is in three days is that OK sir?".........What? Noooooooooo?!?!?

"Pull yourself together", I told myself as I was curled up in a ball on my bed. After all it's not the end of the world...right? Not so long ago all I had was a dial-up connection, and only checking the web maybe once or twice a day briefly, and it was only a little bit longer that I didn't have any internet at all. I will be fine, there are plenty of other things to do, just think think think.........

It's now about an hour later and I find myself sitting in some seedy internet cafe. Judging from the concentration on his face the guy to my right is either looking at an educational website or an "educational" website, and the guy to my left seems to have mistaken this place for a motel as he is fast to sleep in his chair, paying by the hour here is cheaper than getting a room I guess. I try to ignore them and do what I came here to do as quickly as possible. Now I know how an addict wondering the city's back alley in search of his daily fix feels like.

Japanese Strawberries Are So Sweet

Growing up in the "modern" generation, I have been accustomed to the taste of junk food, reprocessed meat and artificial sweets.

When I think about the taste of strawberries, I imagine the taste of a red colored gummy bear. So the first time I had a taste of the "real deal" I was shocked, it tasted nothing like what I expected strawberries to taste like, it was way more sour than sweet, and to think it is my favorite flavor of candy. It led me to believe that maybe this was just a made up flavor that didn't exist in nature.

That was until one day, when I found myself in Japan somehow (a long story for another time). The custom here is that at the end of your meal restaurants will usually serve you complimentary fruits, sometimes it would be cantaloupe, sometimes it would be pineapple or watermelon. Well one day I looked down at the table to find three of my old nemesis staring back at me...yes the dreaded real strawberries.

I didn't want to be rude so I reluctantly took a bite out of one of them. Immediately I was as shocked as the first time I had them, I quickly inspected it closely to make sure the thing wasn't stuffed with candy or something. No, this taste was the work of nature and it's the taste of all those red candies I had been having all these years. I Finally understood where they got it from.

As it turns out, these three weren't the exception but the standard. Almost all strawberries in Japan are super sweet and extremely delicious, especially when they are in season. So if any of you ever get a chance to visit Japan don't forget to have a taste, trust me, you wouldn't need any icing sugar or whipped cream with them.

P.S. And to anyone reading this who lives in Japan...send me some...pleaseeeee :)

Midlife Crisis at 20 Years Of Age

My 20th birthday...one of the most depressing days of my life.

It was a long time ago but I can still remember it so clearly like it was yesterday. Gone are the endless carefree days and infinite dreams of the teenage years, and time seem to be passing faster than ever now to rob me of what was left of my youth. All my friends don't understand why I was so depressed on my birthday, I guess they just don't get it...maybe they were the lucky ones.

Imagine knowing these were probably the best times of your life, and watching the clock as each second ticks by, relentless, and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it. You know when kids say they can't wait to grow up? Older people will always say you don't know how lucky you are to still be young...well I knew...turns out knowing makes it worst.

Some might say isn't it better to realize now rather than when you are like 40 and the prime of your life is long gone, at least now you can do something about it, maybe try and live your life to the fullest. It just doesn't work like that, having a massive feast might keep you full for a little longer than usual, but eventually you will always be hungry again, and there is no appetite like the hunger for life. Having the most exciting life might leave you full of great memories to reminisce about, but reminiscing about happy times is just as painful as regretting the bad ones.

If life is like a roller coaster then at 20 I am on the ride, but rather than enjoying the best part of it, I am looking at the younger generation queuing to get on, envious that they still have the best part of their life to look forward to. Even though they are not yet on, they are still buzzing with excitement, of hopes and dreams of what awaits them. At the same time I am depressed knowing that soon the roller coaster ride (my youth) will be over, and I will join those people who have been on. Sadly in life I can't rejoin the queue, The closest feeling I will ever get to being on the ride again is reminiscing about it with other people in my situation...those for which youth is only a fading memory, but one that seems impossibly more real than anything in the present.
